Our Commitment to Safeguarding Children

My Place is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We recognise that some children are additionally vulnerable because of the impact of discrimination, previous experiences, their level of dependency, communication needs or other issues.

Everyone who works at My Place has the responsibility for promoting the safeguarding and welfare of children. In practice this means:
-
Being aware of My Place policies and procedures regarding Child Protection
-
Becoming aware of the signs and symptoms of abuse by attending relevant courses
-
Reporting all causes for concern to the Designated Safeguarding Lead Officer
-
Ensuring the safety of all young people during any and all activity they undertake with My Place
-
Carrying out risk assessments prior to activities
-
Being attentive to the needs of children and vulnerable adults, and doing whatever is needed to maintain their safety and wellbeing
-
Treating everyone in a way which demonstrates their high value as individuals, regardless of gender, background, ethnicity, disability, sexuality or beliefs
-
Being aware of potential risks to children and young people, and doing what we can to minimise these risks
-
Listening to children and young people, taking their concerns seriously
-
Attending appropriate training to understand and be updated on safeguarding practice

All My Place staff are subject to background checks and the collection of relevant references and all roles are subject to strict probationary periods. If you have any concerns for a child or young person then speak to our Designated Safeguarding Lead Officer Rico Prince.
