Woodberry Down is one of Europe's largest single site regeneration projects; beginning in 2009, work to demolish the existing Hackney Council estate and build over 5000 new homes is scheduled to continue until at least 2035. As part of the regeneration two local reservoirs were developed into an 11 acre nature reserve, with the site being opened to the public for the first time in 200 years in 2016.
My Place have been commissioned by the Woodberry Down partners (Notting Hill Genesis Housing Association, Berkeley Homes and the London Borough of Hackney) to train young people as social researchers, to gather the views of young people regarding the ongoing regeneration, and to establish a youth-led steering group to work with the regeneration partners to improve the local area for everyone.
My Place has recruited 8 young people aged 13-18 from Woodberry Down to access and represent the views of the diverse communities in Woodberry Down with local decision makers, in order to improve the local area for everyone. Find out more about the Woodberry Down Community Ambassadors below and stay tuned to our blog and socials to follow their journey!
